 The True & Complete Memoirs of a Pyrate Captain

FORWARD
The preface and prologue that follows hath inspired me to tell ye here, a summation of why I became a pyrate.
My life and them reasons for becoming a pyrate hath bin a subject of much controversy, tho’ one in particular, who after examining the events logically, concludes, considering the moral feelings I possessed when taken by Hywel Davis, is that I, after much contemplation, belieeved wholeheartedly that a life as a pyrate was preordained, though having no idea untill later, just what was to be the true nature of that what I held to be my inescapable future, beyond the joining of their ranks, but ‘tis belieeved, indubitably, by this woman who I have chosen to relate my story, as it was to meselfe, to be my Destiny.
I, once again being captur’d by pyrates, and my quick rise to Captaincy, one can easily draw one to the conclusion that those who crewed, the Rover, knew of me from my dayes whilst sailing with Edward England, which, in the eyes of me champion, being she who writes for me, explains my acceptance speech, as it ought to all. I, who be more than capable, yet unable to achieve a well-deserved position as Captain upon a Merchant or Naval vessell, felt that such obtainment would be possible, onely, aboard a pyrate vessell. Therefore, now belieeving this to be the long awaited fulfilment of me destiny, as she knoweths to be, I allowed my strong morals, sense of propriety and integrity drive me forth. From these ne’er did I waver. And in this, became the legendary pyrate Captain, Bartholomew Roberts. This position, which was unlike that of anny that came before me, or since, allowed me to show to all who opposed me, and with an unmitigated passion, what a grave mistake they had made in denying me a Captaincy.
That which lyes herein is my story, and how it truly happened.

For myself, I can say only, that it’s very important to me that those who seek knowledge about this Great Man, understand him. That is why I have labored in his behalf. I hope I have succeeded.
